Our Beliefs
Our beliefs lead us to a free and responsible search for truth and meaning. We don’t recite acreed, but instead we are unified by a shared search for spiritual growth and shared Values.
We share covenants, or promises, within the congregation. One of those covenants is to live by our shared Values.
Our Religious Sources

Liberal Christian traditions were the foundations of both Unitarianism and Universalism. Unitarian Universalism now draws its inclusive spirituality from six sources: from scriptural wisdom to personal experience and modern-day heroes.
We are grateful for the religious pluralism that enriches and ennobles our faith. It inspires us to deepen our understanding and expand our vision.
- Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, that moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life
- Words and deeds of prophetic women and men that challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love;
- Wisdom from the world’s religions that inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life;
- Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God’s love by loving our neighbors as ourselves;
- Humanist teachings that counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit;
- Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions that celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
You can bring your whole self to Unitarian Universalism: your full identity, your questioning mind, your expansive heart.
Creating a Powerful Force Together
Unitarian Universalists believe more than one thing. We think for ourselves and reflect together about important questions:
- The existence of a Higher Power
- Life and Death
- Sacred Texts
- Inspiration and Guidance
- Prayer and Spiritual Practices
Our inclusive outlook and shared values unite us. These things unite us: our worship services, religious education, and rites of passage. Moreover, our work for social justice, our quest to include the marginalized, and our expressions of love also unite us.
Together, we create a force more powerful than one person or one belief system. As Unitarian Universalists, we do not have to check our personal background and beliefs at the door. We join together on a journey that honors everywhere we’ve been before.
