October 3, 2021 – The Blessing of the Animals

Each year on October 4, the Catholic faith celebrates the life and legacy of St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals and the Environment.  St. Francis was a great lover of the natural world and the animals who inhabit it.  What better time for Unitarian Universalists to celebrate our own seventh principle acknowledging our “respect for the interdependent web of existence of which we are a part.” In today’s service we celebrate the blessings bestowed upon us by the animals who inhabit our planet, and reflect upon the many ways they enrich our lives by living their own.
