Religious Education – March – Join Us!

Engaging sessions for our RE youth this past month included a Valentine “Val-Pal” reveal party with guessing game for tunes-songs played and a scavenger hunt challenge. We heard some excellent bios presented by our kids on famous black Americans with more to be offered in March. Our intro on world religions continues with Cassie Calway attending recently as a guest presenter giving an interesting overview on CUUPs, Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans.

There’s a lot in store for March with Women’s History Month as part of RE sessions’ content and emphasis on UU unifying principles to include the 5th principle on right of conscience and use of the democratic process. The March maker kit offers relevant activities and things for RE youth to create during sessions, in addition to suggested crafts provided weekly tying with lessons. We’re busy… and looking forward to our first litter clean-up this month with members of the Social Justice Committee.

We invite you to drop in on a RE Zoom session any Sunday from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm and join the fun.

Building Your Own Theology

On January 27th the Religious Education Committee began the Building Your Own Theology discussion group facilitated by Jeff Harris and organized by Chris Thomas.

The Building Your Own Theology discussion group is based on the assumption that everyone is their own theologian explorer of religious truth. It is a classic UU adult education program that invites participants to expand their personal credos. Every Wednesday the group meets to discuss their thoughts and share personal stories about their spiritual – or not so spiritual – paths.

So far the group has created a working covenant, constructed their spiritual timelines, started writing their spiritual autobiographies, and shared stories of a significant spiritual moment in their life. The group consists mainly of UUCLC members and friends, but does include people new to the church from Texas and Minnesota. We have completed four weeks and have eight more to go!

So far this is the only Session of Building Your Own Theology planned, but If you are interested in joining a potential future Building Your Own Theology discussion group please contact Kellie Ingram at  If there is enough interest, the Religious Education may hold another Session later in the year.
