Next Week’s Roundtable
Sun, Dec 10, 2017 Roundtable: Border Violence: militarization and identity formation
Jorge Rodriguez is the presenter.
Mr Rodriguez is a Field Organizer for ACLU of New Mexico Regional Center for Border Rights. The various intersections influencing interior border checkpoint (IBC) crossing experiences of brown, borderland residents is unique in that it has become normalized. This presentation looks at the conscious/subconscious process or actions that individuals take to meet the dominant view of what ‘normal’ or ‘non-suspect’ might be as a minimization of suspicion technique (MST). Jorge also will discuss whether IBC crossings influence the way borderland residents identify themselves in a region that is continuously influenced by colonial residual ideologies and institutions.
Next Sunday’s Service
This will be a quiet service at 5 PM, focusing on the contemplative dimensions of Advent, Hanukkah, and Solstice. Vespers are meant to give you a break from hectic preparations, some time to pause and reflect on the deeper meanings of the holidays.
