Spiritual enrichment and development is a lifelong pursuit in this church. We offer a variety of classes, Roundtable discussions, spiritual retreats, a small group ministry known as Covenant Groups, rich musical opportunities, and the fine arts displayed in our Tombaugh Art Gallery.
Adult Religious Education
Our adult classes generally run on a semester basis with a classes in the spring and fall. Classes vary in length and are taught by our staff, congregational volunteers, or visiting lecturers and teachers.
Classes facilitate relevant educational experiences in the congregation and wider communityand are intended to affirm and promote Unitarian Universalist principles.
Adult Religious Education courses seek to address four categories that are particularly important for balanced spiritual development:
- Unitarian Universalist history and faith development;
- Physical and emotional well-being;
- Personal and spiritual awareness; and,
- Social awareness and justice.
Concerts and Lectures
Each year we offer a wide variety of concerts and lectures; these are normally open to the public as well as the congregation. Past programs have included: Emma’s Revolution, Still On the Hill, lectures by Michael Dowd, and Indian dancing and the poetry of Tagore.
Roundtable Discussions
Roundtable discussions promote individual growth through group interaction. Everyone is free to join the discussion group and many members drop in when the topics are of interest to them. The Roundtable meets in the church’s library on Sundays at 10:30 AM, during the second church service.

While we may reach a consensus about an issue under discussion, the real purpose of the Roundtable is to provide everyone with the information they need to make up their own minds about an issue. Each discussion is lead by a member of the group or an outside speaker. A moderator makes sure that everyone who has something to say gets a chance to speak and no one person dominates the discussion.
Roundtables cover a broad range of topics, generally anything in which the group is interested. It may be a scientific principle or theory, a religious subject, or social, economic, or political issues. Sometimes other groups within or outside the church request time to make a presentation to the Roundtable. The month’s schedule of topics is published in the Light (the church newsletter), church bulletins, and on this web site so you can choose to attend the topics that are of interest to you.
WOMENSPIRIT
WomenSpirit has been an annual retreat since the year 2000 and is held on a long weekend every September near Cloudcroft, NM. Adult women from our church and the larger community join together for a weekend of companionship, relaxation, and spiritual renewal. There are many creative hands-on activities including: arts and crafts, writing, drumming, dancing, and music. Between the opening and closing ceremonies, there are always opportunities for hiking or curling up with a good book. The retreat fee is all-inclusive with linens, lodging, and good, hearty food.
