Campus Ministry

Music Program

Our music program helps meet the spiritual needs of  our congregation and supports the ministry of the church by enhancing the message of each service.  In addition, the program provides  opportunities for our musicians to share their talents and for the congregation to sing, be involved in and enjoy the music. To this end we support special musical events featuring both local and national musicians, the UU choir and young performers from our congregation.

Our program is both blessed and enhanced by our Director of Music, Catherine Massey.  A physics teacher by day, Catherine leaps into her
role as Director on Tuesday nights at choir rehersals, on Sundays during services, and in between as she plans music programs and studies with the Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network.

Catherine recently completed a rigorous 3-year program for Unitarian Universalist music leaders and was one of the first ten candidates for certification through UU Musicians Network – a distinction that  further enhances our musical programming. Catherine says, “I think this engages all of us in the spirit of learning and experiencing music as living worship.”

There is truly room for all, including musicians, appreciative supporters and people of all ages. These are some of the ways our congregation becomes involved in music:

Our Choir

Our choir helps provide music for services from September through May.  We sing a variety of styles of music, and we include very experienced and very inexperienced singers. To join the choir, you only need to have a willingness to sing and participate in rehearsals. Choir rehearsals are 6:30-8:15 PM on Tuesdays in the sanctuary. In addition, we practice together for 30 minutes before each service in which we sing.

Instrumentalists and Singers

There is always room for the participation of instrumentalists and singers.  In addition to the UU Choir, we provide a variety of music for each worship service; for example, we would welcome your participation as a soloist,  or as part of a duet or larger group, or perhaps you’d like to accompany other performers or the choir as they sing hymns or anthems.

We welcome young adult musicians in addition to seasoned veterans. All of our musicians discover a supportive and appreciative group of listeners in our congregation.
