The Zia of American Indians & the Chalice of Unitarian-Universalism

The four-rayed sun represents the source of heat and warmth and the source of growth and time. The rays on the top represent the four winds; those on the left represent the four seasons. The four parts of each day are represented by the rays on the right; on the bottom the rays represent the four stages of human life - childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age.

The flaming chalice at the Zia's center is a version of the official symbol of the Unitarian Universalist Association. The Chalice represents the variety of thoughts and beliefs held by Unitarian Universalists. The flame in the chalice represents enlightenment, the light of reason and the warmth of human compassion.
