A Welcoming Congregation

In the Spring of 2007, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Las Cruces officially became a Welcoming Congregation. The Welcoming Congregation Program is a voluntary program for congregations that see a need to become more inclusive towards bisexual, gay, lesbian, and/or transgender (b/g/l/t) people and to reduce prejudice by increasing understanding and acceptance among people of different sexual orientations.

A committed group of individuals participated in a 14-week program and now sit on the Welcoming Congregation Committee to ensure that our congregation is welcoming to individuals of all sexual orientations. The Welcoming Congregation Committee regularly conducts workshops and participates in events designed to increase awareness of b/g/l/t issues. Recently, a new group of individuals has begun the 14-week program, and shorter GLBT awareness courses are being offered through the Adult RE program.
