Keeping Your Kids Safe

Procedures Regarding Safety (adopted 2004)

Shared Responsibility

Safety in the sanctuary

We gather each Sunday in the main sanctuary at 10:30AM for a brief shared worship time.

Each family is responsible for the safety and whereabouts of their children and youth during this time. We encourage all members to participate in our shared worship time. Should your child/youth choose not to be present in the sanctuary, an adult must supervise them.

Children age nine and younger must remain with a family member before the Sunday school program begins.

You are welcome to escort your children to their room as the children are sung out of the sanctuary; however, our Teaching Team members will escort the children to the Religious Education building, so you need not leave the service unless you wish to.

Parents or designated guardians will meet their children after Sunday school in the Religious Education building; Sunday school ends at 11:45AM.

Members of the Youth and Tween groups should be in their classrooms if they are not attending the opening service.

Parents are primarily responsible for their children in the sanctuary or in other situations in which their children are with them. It is also important that children not be left alone, unless someone is aware of their whereabouts and vigilant about their safety. We require an adult or parent to remain on church grounds during the program. There are wonderful outdoor spaces here please keep your children/youth in sight and supervised when outdoors.

Physical Injuries/Illness

Religious education personnel will treat only minor injuries. A first aid kit is available in the Religious Education office for this purpose. In the event a child is more seriously injured, his or her parent(s) or guardian will be notified immediately and/or we will call 911.

Please keep your children home if they are suffering from a contagious illness.

Parents will inform the staff of any medical conditions that might affect their child's participation in our religious education program. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for all of our children and youth. Information about an individual will remain confidential with the Director of Religious Education and the child's teaching team.

Outings

Children must have a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian before they are allowed to leave the grounds during Sunday school or other church activities.

Parents or guardians will be informed about the destination, attending adults, and the time frame of all church outings. If vehicles will be used for an outing, parents and guardians will be informed who will be driving their child.

Permission slips will identify the name of each child, an emergency contact, and any pertinent medical information. Adult chaperones will keep these slips with them.

Playground Safety

No child shall be left in the playground area unsupervised by an adult or appropriately trained youth.

No child can be left unattended and use of the playground is allowed with adult supervision only.

Parents/adult caregivers are responsible for the safety and whereabouts of their children/youth at the conclusion Sunday school.
