2006-07 Religious Education Program for Yuuth

Welcome to our religious education program for children and youth! This fall's program is centered on the stories and universal themes found in the Jewish-Christian bible. Using Unitarian Universalist values and ethics, we will explore in age appropriate sessions the following stories.

Creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham, Jacob and Joseph, Moses, Miriam and Aaron, David and Solomon, Deborah, the Prophets, Jesus' parables, Jesus as rebellious leader and prayer and mediation.

Our junior high age youth will be participating in the Our Whole Lives program. Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a comprehensive value based sexuality program co-written by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ. Parental consent and orientation are required for the program. For details on the program please visit www.uua.org programs and services/Religious Education/curriculum/OWL

Senior high age youth meet during the second service (10:30AM) in the RE building. Our adult youth advisors and the youth plan their program together. Previous programs have included exploring world religions, ethics and decision-making, relationship skills and social justice works.

The first Sunday of each month our children will be attending a Children's Chapel in the Religious Educations Great Room. Chapel themes will include a bible story, sharing Joys and Concerns, music and an activity meant to deepen our children's understanding of the day's theme.

In addition, we will be participating in a workshop format throughout each month. Workshops should reflect the day's theme. Workshops using music, cooking, drama play, media and art will weave through the program allowing for different learning styles and talents to be honored and appreciated.

Our religious education program is a cooperative one. We expect participation from at least one adult member for each of our families. The workshop format can be the place where you shine! Whatever your gift or talent is, we need you to share it with us.
