Covenant groups are gatherings of small groups of individuals that meet a couple of times each month to explore questions of meaning and purpose that we do not often have opportunity to talk about. Participants grow in their understanding of what is personally meaningful to them, while building a caring and supportive church community. Each group consists of six to eight people, one of whom serves as a facilitator. The facilitator provides a topic for each meeting and provides a few statements or questions that the group members may wish to address. Individuals are free to explore the significance of that topic as it applies to their life experience and learn from the experiences of the other group members.
Each covenant group determines a set of guidelines (covenants) they will follow. The specific guidelines will vary somewhat from group to group, but all groups are expected to create covenants that provide for a mutually supportive environment in which all the groups members may grow personally and/or spiritually. In addition, each group selects a service project for the church or the community.
The current groups formed during March and will continue through December (2006). New groups will form in early 2007. For additional information, please download the Covenant Groups FAQs (pdf file). |
